The Pregnant "Man"

By now you may have already heard about the pregnant "man" whose story is all over the internet and who recently appeared on Oprah. I put "man" in quotes because this individual was born a woman but later took hormones to become more masculine and then began living life as a man. This "man" even got married. But after (s)he found out that the woman that (s)he married was unable to become pregnant, (s)he decided to get pregnant by means of artificial insemination. This person, who goes by the name Thomas, told Oprah that pregnancy is "a process, and it doesn't define who I am." I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean, but I don't like the sound of it.

This is unnatural. To abandon one's own God-given gender in favor of something else is unnatural. The most basic gender roles of mother and father are clearly defined by our body's sexual organs. To take those roles and to redefine them based on confusion about one's own sexual identity is an attempt to push God out of His role as creator. We don't get to determine our own gender, regardless of how unnatural or undesirable one's God-given gender may feel to a person. And pregnancy is more than a gender-neutral process. It is the distinct role of a woman to have the honor of carrying a child in her womb. That's how God intended it. Period.

What probably bothers me the most about this is that Thomas is not a man. Thomas is a woman. She is in the middle of "gender reassignment" surgery (there it is again -- as though we honestly have the ability to "reassign" someone's gender) but her female sexual organs are still intact. There are many who would consider her a man simply because she has declared herself to be one but wishful thinking doesn't make it true. Regardless of the fact that taking hormones has caused her voice to drop and to grow facial hair so that she appears superficially male, all the "gender reassignment" surgeries that money can buy won't change the fact that she is a woman. All of this is just smoke and mirrors on the part of us feeble humans to remove God from the equation and fool ourselves into thinking that we somehow have mastery over His creation. And that is unnatural, too.

  1. Couldn't agree with you more. I saw the show too and had/have the exact same thoughts. Well said.
